More praises for Textpattern · Jan 9, 11:09 AM
I just wanted to put down in writing how much I love using Textpattern to put things down in writing. I maintain another site for my family and I don’t use Textpattern there because of the nature of the site and needing1 the capability to have multiple users post information as well as a forum.
I use Drupal on the other site, and it’s a fine piece of work. It’s very powerful, has a lot of features, and a great support community; but it’s just not as easy to actually post—hence not as enjoyable to use. Textpattern is just a joy. Easy to format and insert things like links, footnotes, and images. It’s also a lot easier to administer, but that may be attributed to the fact that Drupal has so many more features—more features usually equates to more complicated administration tools. Still, just setting up the look and feel of the site is more complicated.
Drupal is really a full blown Content Management application where Textpattern is mainly a blogging tool, but when that’s all you need…
I keep asking myself if I really need all of the features Drupal brings to the table just so I can use Textpattern on my other site. Looking for excuses to use an application really speaks to it’s functionality.

1 There is some debate in my mind as to whether or not I actually “need” these features, as none of my family members have shown any interest in posting or commenting in a forum to-date. It would be nice if they would so I maintain the feature, but not much traffic there currently.
